The Blue Village
The feudal village of Simiane la Rotonde is called the "Blue Village", surrounded by a sea of lavender fields. Perched on a hilltop, Simiane la Rotonde is on the edge of the Luberon Park, in the homeland of the celebrated French writer Jean Giono. Being away from the major roads has helped to preserve this ancient village.

Carved Archways, Doors
Hollyhocks and lavender fragrance
complement the elegant arches and
beautiful carved doors which dot the
streets and take you around all the way
to the rotunda.

La Rotonde
Towering above Simiane is a strange
and mysterious XIIth century Rotonde.

Eighteen meters high and eighteen meters in diameter, it hosts the summer festival of medieval and classical music

In Simiane , this door is a favorite with watercolorists

Even the modern doors have a very special charm

Timeless Community
Simiane is an ancient community of glassmakers and noblemen with a rich historical background. Numerous XVIth, XVIIth and XVIIIth century town houses breath calm and inspiration.

The entire village is a maze of small, cobblestone streets which are fortunately too small and too steep for cars or any motor vehicle.

Doors and Steps
Every step you will want to stop, sketch and take a picture. The entire village, 35 residents in winter, 400 in summer, including writers, artists and diplomats, is a garden of flowers and old stones.

When you arrive, it is as though you have stepped back in time, across the centuries, to the real French Provence.
